Nathan Hefner, a well-known musician from Hickory, North Carolina, sadly passed away. On Saturday, October 21, 2023, he passed away from a cardiac arrest. He developed his solo performing career throughout his high school years and met the people who would later work with him, helping to create one of the top swing and jazz ensembles in the area. Hefner co-founded Sentimental Journey in 1992 with three other colleagues.
The group rapidly became well-liked by the public and gave several concerts in 1992 and 1993. Sentimental Journey’s growth in popularity throughout the Southeast culminated in a dream come true for Hefner in 1997: the band was given the chance to open for legendary Patti Page.
The group headlined a three-night concert at the opening of Harrah’s casino in Cherokee, North Carolina, in that historic year. Sentimental Journey had the privilege of launching the esteemed Jacksonville Jazz Festival the next year, which is one of the biggest gatherings of its sort in the country.
