After this past weekend in New York when my most DM’d question was about my Margaux bag (from The Row) ~ I thought I should probably weigh in as someone who admittedly has collected three sizes over the years of what’s been deemed a “Birkin in the making.” Ashley and Mary-Kate (Olsen) have kept the design classic but introduce new colors and subtle changes over the years which has kept these bags feeling fresh… and customers like myself (um, hiii) wanting the various color ways. Okay, actually my girlfriends are pushing me out of my comfort zone… telling me to write this review!… but posting about my collection of handbags is the most “un-me” thing. And ironically the opposite of what I’ve long loved about The Row (and although I don’t like the term ~ “quiet luxury”).
Also, I’m not someone who wants to own the trendiest bag, so to be honest I’m a little bummed to be seeing it all over TikTok / Instagram these past few months especially. But this hasn’t changed how I feel about my Margaux(s). I think they’re gorgeous, timeless, iykyk minimal bags… that I actually rarely see in the wild (outside of my internet fashion bubble) ~ and are practical for various reasons in the different sizes. So I know it’s ridiculous to own three… but no judgement here and let’s just make this informational because I think choosing the right size for you can be confusing! Also, I can make the case that these are an investment as mine have already gone up in value in the few years I’ve had them!
Wearing | Jenni Kayne Sweater (code: *ALICIA15). Jeans. Boots (more sizes here). Margaux 17 Bag.
(I think it’s the most helpful to see the various sizes on the same person so I’m 5’1’’ for reference)
I have the Margaux 17 in tan leather (above) which I’ve owned for a couple of years now. The Margaux 15 in burgundy suede (this was my first Margaux). And the Margaux 12 in black pebble leather.
If you’re not familiar with the Margaux sizing they’re by inches (17”, 15” and 12” and there’s also the smaller 10” size which is easier to come by (also available for preorder here). And now there is also the EW Margaux which is a longer more narrow shape, to fit under your shoulder more comfortably. Although I’m trying to think of the use for that size… maybe a workbag?!
